48 Hour Film Project - INLAND EMPIRE, CA! http://ie48hfp.posterous.com Most recent posts at 48 Hour Film Project - INLAND EMPIRE, CA! posterous.com Thu, 23 Sep 2010 22:07:00 -0700 48 Hour Film Project sister competition, the |National| Film Challenge, Oct. 22-25, 2010. http://ie48hfp.posterous.com/48-hour-film-project-sister-competition-the-n http://ie48hfp.posterous.com/48-hour-film-project-sister-competition-the-n

Greetings, 48HFP-IE Friends:

I know some of you - especially in the Palm Springs area - already plan to compete in this, but for those of you who missed out on competing in The 48 Hour Film Project, or if you’re thirsty for more, a sister competition, the National Film Challenge <http://filmchallenge.org/>, will occur Oct. 22-25, 2010. Instead of physically dropping off your film, you mail it in by Oct. 25 (see the NFC Web site for complete rules). And you compete against the rest of the nation – make that the world – simultaneously. The winners will be featured at 48HFP’s World Finals, Filmapalooza.

I’ve created a discussion board topic on our Facebook Fan page <http://bit.ly/a3ZEn8>, as well as a tab on our Posterous blog page <http://bit.ly/dC3AuW> for anyone interested.

48HFP city producers are eligible to compete in the National Film Challenge, so I plan to participate. My initial goal was to get a member from each of the 48HFP-IE teams to be on my team. But I’ll be on another continent during the competition dates – and you betcha I’m gonna make a film wherever I am – one-wild-weekend style!

Best of luck if you compete in the National Film Challenge. Here’s hoping that at the 2011 Filmapalooza at Miami International Film Festival, I’ll get to root for Team Work and Play Productions/“Snakebit” AND another team representing the mighty IE!

Keep on filming,
Jeanette.

The National Film Challenge is an exhilarating worldwide filmmaking competition from the creators of the 48 Hour Film Project and KDHX Community Media. The Premise: Participating teams have just one weekend to write, shoot and edit a short film or video. Regardless of where you live, this is your opportunity to experience the 48 Hour Film Project phenomenon!

Just like in the 48HFP, you'll receive a character, prop, line of dialogue, and a genre through this website at 7pm local time, October 22nd. Then you'll have to mail the film in on October 25th.  In the following weeks the top films (determined by a national panel of judges) will be available for viewing (and voting!) on the Film Challenge website. The winning films will screen with the 48HFP City Winners at the next Filmapalooza, the 48HFP's end of year event at the Miami International Film Festival. In addition there are cash prizes for the winning films! Registration is now open for the 2010 competition, this year's date are October 22-25. Register on the Film Challenge site, <http://filmchallenge.org/>.

Tue, 17 Aug 2010 11:42:10 -0700 from the 48 HOUR FILM PROJECT - INLAND EMPIRE newsletter: World Premiere Screenings edition! http://ie48hfp.posterous.com/from-the-48-hour-film-project-inland-empire-n-2 http://ie48hfp.posterous.com/from-the-48-hour-film-project-inland-empire-n-2

Greetings, 48HFP-IE Friends:

The 48 Hour Film Project – Inland Empire competition weekend was completed Aug. 8, 2010. Now see the fruit of the indie filmmakers’ + actors’ creative and collaborative labors in the World Premiere theater screenings at UltraStar Cinemas-University Village inRiverside, CA, Aug. 18 and 19!

About 12 short films per screening group, 3 screening groups over 2 nights. Red carpet – check. Filmmaker Q&A – check. Giveaways – check. Audience award winners as voted by You – check. Awesome afterparties – check. An incredible event all around – you betcha! Bring friends, family, and whatever wardrobe you want - formal, semi-formal, slightly casual blue jeans, et al.

$10 per screening group. More info + links to purchase tickets online @http://48hourfilm.com/inlandempire/

Tickets can be purchased at the UltraStar Cinemas-University Village box office as well.

ON THE SLATE:

Each team leader will get a custom badge on a suede lanyard – if only to help our MC announce each team as they parade down the red carpet in front of the silver screen to roars from the audience. The teams will have their photos taken by local press + paparazzi in front of a custom film festival-style sponsor logo backdrop. And cuz they’re all super Stars, each member will get to autograph the backdrop under their team’s name as they proceed to their stadium seats.

Then the awesomeness that is the 48HFP-Inland Empire films will start to roll!! (And word on the street is that at least two teams will be rolling up in limousines!)

Each night, starting at 10 p.m.Mediterranean Palace, steps fromUltraStar Cinemas-University Village, will be hosting an awesome afterparty for 48 Hour Film Project – Inland Empire! Save your movie ticket stub and bring five bucks, cuz the $5 cover charge includes a spread of FREE appetizers plus a voucher for a FREE drink (alcoholic or non; bring your IDs, please)! And within 30 minutes, we’ll be announcing the Audience Award winner of the night’s screening group(s)!

Then we’ll drink more and eat more and talk a lot more then drive home safely and close our eyes to one of the best nights of our lives…

Alan and I merely created a stage; the spotlight is on you, so shine!

Jeanette + Alan.

Special thanks to…Everyone!

Tue, 03 Aug 2010 17:47:00 -0700 From the 48 Hour Film Project - Inland Empire newsletter No. 12 (08.03.10) : PRIZE ANNOUNCEMENTS edition! http://ie48hfp.posterous.com/from-the-48-hour-film-project-inland-empire-n-0 http://ie48hfp.posterous.com/from-the-48-hour-film-project-inland-empire-n-0

Greetings, Film Friends:

The big weekend for the Inland Empire edition of the world's largest timed-filmmaking competition kicks off this Friday, Aug. 6.  For filmmakers and actors considering forming a team, registration ($155 per team) is still open and can be done via http://48hourfilm.com/inlandempire

For folks wanting to join an existing team, if you haven't already, please add your contact info to the "Join a Team" database, whose link can be found at the bottom of http://48hourfilm.com/inlandempire  Registered Team Leaders have access to this database in case they're in need of more cast and crew.

And now...

PRIZE ANNOUNCEMENTS:

* There will be an Audience Award for each screening group, and the prize for our Audience Award winners is...*insert: drum roll**: FREE admission to the rest of 2010's Independent Filmmakers of the Inland Empire Meetups for all members on official rosters of the winning teams, courtesy of IFOTIE founder/organizer Eric Harnden! (Raffle ticket included only for paid admissions, but can be purchased for $1.) http://ifotie.com

* Inland Empire's BEST FILM, as determined by a jury, will receive...*insert: guitar solo**
$500 CASH, sponsored by Ted W. Kennedy of Kennedy Films & Entertainment - Long Beach, CA!
http://kennedyfilms.tv  Again, that's $500 CASH for our winning film/team!!

* A selection of 48HFP-IE films will have automatic screenings at Temecula Valley International Film & Music Festival (http://tviff.com/) and Lake Arrowhead Film Festival (http://www.lakearrowheadfilmfestival.com/)! Film festival "Official Selections" = IMDB credit!!

* A selection of award winners will receive 1-year subscriptions to MovieMaker magazine! http://www.moviemaker.com/

* Because first and foremost, I consider myself a (screen)writer, for the BEST WRITING/Screenplay winner...I will award my personal copy of the Oscar-winning screenplay for "Juno" - and it's a special edition. I was fortunate enough to attend the last 48HFP World Finals, Filmapalooza, which was held at NAB Show in Las Vegas this April. "Juno" director Jason Reitman gave an incredible talk - including On Screenwriting - and he autographed my copy of the Diablo Cody-written "Juno" (his signature + a cool note). (I did get him to autograph - and personalize with my name - my copy of the screenplay for "Thank You for Smoking," which he wrote and directed, and which I'll be keeping for a while...maybe. ;o) I might just write a memo in the "Juno" script for this award's winner, too, wishing you all the best; who knows maybe someday I'll be collecting *Your** autograph when you make it big.

More prize announcements to come! Have a super week, everyone!

---

BTW, at the previous Filmapalooza, I sat with some City Producers (even though I had not gotten the official "tap" to be a CP for IE yet). I did cheer on "Rationed" by our defending champions, the Vegan Cannibals, when it was named 2nd Runner-up in the world out of about 76 cities. This upcoming Filmapalooza, I will sit next to whichever IE team represents us for this, our third year on the 48HFP World Tour. And you're dang straight I'll cheer my heart out for you when they announce "INLAND EMPIRE"!!

Your No. 1 Cheerleader,
Jeanette Di Pinza, aka, "da Duck."

P.S. Extra-super-special thanks to Eric Harnden (my 2009 48HFP-IE Team Leader), Brian Bowers (Cleveland CP; HQ Staff), Jimmy Stewart (LA CP), Christina Ruppert (HQ), Laura Schlect (Houston CP; HQ Staff), and...Wally Schlotter (Vice President - Special Projects, UltraStar Cinemas), for your advice, generosity (especially your time), encouragement, support, and most of all, for simply being there for me.

Wed, 28 Jul 2010 15:52:00 -0700 48 Hour Film Project - Inland Empire newsletter No. 11 (07.28.10): super edition! http://ie48hfp.posterous.com/48-hour-film-project-inland-empire-newsletter http://ie48hfp.posterous.com/48-hour-film-project-inland-empire-newsletter

Greetings Film Friends:

We hope everyone’s been having a super week. If you haven’t reserved your super weekend, aka, Aug. 6-8, via registering your team for the Inland Empire edition of the world’s largest timed-filmmaking competition, The 48 Hour Film Project, please do so @ https://www.48hourfilm.com/registration/?cityid=104

We have almost 30 teams who’ve registered so far, with a cap around 36, and slots are filling fast. The later you wait, the more likely you’ll be put on a waiting list. Reserve your spot in the spotlight: our world premiere screenings at UltraStar Cinemas-University Village in Riverside on Aug. 18 and 19!

Thank you to everyone who attended the Friday Meet + Greet in Palm Springs/Coachella Valley. We enjoyed meeting everyone, and everyone’s enthusiasm/encouragement of each other’s art + cultural journeys was just…incredible!

Along those lines, we have one last Meet + Greet planned for this Sunday. It’s going to be…super:

SUPER MEET + GREET in Riverside, Sunday, Aug. 1.
We want everyone – registered teams, “free agents” looking for teams, fans and friends of 48 Hour Film Project – to attend this event. It’ll be from 5-7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 1, at Back to the Grind in Riverside (the private basement; 3575 University Ave., Riverside, CA , 92501).

To rev up everybody – in every sense of the word – Back to the Grind will be selling a special caffeinated beverage on tap in honor of us: “The 48 Hour.” For folks wanting to drink something *stronger** afterward: We’ll cross the street to Lake Alice, where they will be selling a special-for-us alcoholic, White Russian'ish concoction called “The Film Project.”

In addition to a film showcase and followup panel at Back to the Grind, anyone who wants to participate in 48HFP but has not joined a team will have the opportunity to "pitch" themselves to the teams in attendance.

TONIGHT...IN SAN DIEGO, 5-10 p.m.
Our friends at 48HFP-SD will have their premiere screenings tonight and tomorrow night. Please come out and support The 48 Hour Film Project!
Of special interest: "Yet Another Film Team," "Shakespeare by the Sea" "That Much Better" and "Cudafunk" all have team members who are participating in both the San Diego and Inland Empire competition. Cudafunk actually has members who will be on rival teams for the Inland Empire edition. Even though it's a competition, the fun, knowledge, collaboration to be gained via The 48 Hour Film Project means EVERYONE'S a winner!

ALSO TONIGHT...BUT IN LA, 6-9 p.m.
Our friends at 48HFP-LA will have their first of two Mixers before their competition weekend (Aug. 13-15). More info @ http://48hourfilm.com/la

Who’s excited over 48HFP – all over da place?

We are,
Jeanette and Alan – Your IE Competition Producers.

You are, too, right? :oj

Please see our long list of "special thanks" at http://ie48hfp.posterous.com

We hope everyone’s having a fantastic week! Competition weekend – Aug. 6-8 – is around the corner, and if you have yet to register your team or join one (via http://48hourfilm.com/inlandempire), please do so soon. Last week, we asked you to mark your calendar for July 21. Here’s more on that…

*MEET AND GREET...PLUS, EAT LATER - Riverside, July 21 (tomorrow!).**
Due to scheduling and venue conflicts, the Rancho Cucamonga/Ontario area Meet and Greet planned for July 21 has been swapped out for...a Meet and Greet in Riverside!

Tomorrow from 5 to 6:45 p.m., please come on out to UC-Riverside's fantastic California Museum of Photography (3824 Main St., Riverside CA 92501; next to the “starbase” of the Star Trek exhibit) for the picture-perfect, Spock-like spot to learn about the Inland Empire edition of the world's largest timed-filmmaking competition, The 48 Hour Film Project! Form or add to your team; network; "talk shop"; watch 48HFP-IE films from previous years and ask their filmmakers what were the best and worst parts of their experience; and yes...try to win some of our giveaways, too, including UltraStar Cinemas movie passes! Yep, it's a FREE event!

After the Meet and Greet, at 7 p.m. a few blocks away at The Plum House coffee shop (3882 12th St., Riverside, CA 92501; behind Clark’s Nutrition Center), please join one of our awesome partners/sponsors, Independent Filmmakers of the Inland Empire, for their Meetup! Admission is $5, which includes a copy of the July issue of ICG magazine (while supplies last!). Get 1/2 off the admission price with food/beverage purchase at The Plum House. They've got prizes, too; one raffle ticket included with paid admission! More info on the Meetup: here.

*TEAM REGISTRATION - OPEN 'TIL AUG. 6.**
If you've been having good times at our Meet and Greets and other pre-competition events, just think how much awesomeness you'll have Aug. 6-8: competition weekend! But you have to be on a registered team. Registration will be open til Aug. 6, but the later you wait, the more likely you'll be placed on a waiting list to compete. So round up your usual suspects, sign up some raw recruits (now or later), split the $155 fee among your team members if necessary, and join in the excitement by signing up: https://www.48hourfilm.com/registration/?cityid=104

Greetings, Film Friends:

We're three weeks away from the Inland Empire edition of the world's largest timed-filmmaking competition, The 48 Hour Film Project, in which teams get 1 genre, 3 elements (prop, character, line of dialogue), and 48 hours to make a 4- to 7-minute film from scratch to "in the can" - write, shoot, edit, score, delivered in time. Completed films will premiere at UltraStar Cinemas on Aug. 18 and 19, with a "Best of Inland Empire" showcase and awards ceremony set for Aug. 25 at Old Town Temecula Community Theater.

In order to partake in all this crazy-coolness, you have to register your team: http://48hourfilm.com/inlandempire

REGISTRATION - LET'S KICK IT UP...
The Early Bird discount rate ($135 per team) has passed, but there is still time to register ($155) - even if you don't yet have a complete cast and/or crew.

For teams that have their troop and maybe the gear but not the funds, here are some suggestions:
- Split the cost among your team and designate a Team Leader. If you want to appoint someone to buy the 3-foot-long burritos during your shoot, that'll work, too. :oj
- Find a business or an individual to sponsor your team. You could "thank" them by naming your team after them.
- Fund at least part of your 48 Hour Film Project/team registration fee using Kickstarter.com, Facebook Causes, or another fund-raising site. Many indie films and other creative projects have gotten the greenlight because of such "crowd sourced capital."
- Use your creativity to fund your team. We know you have a wealth of it!

THIS COMING WEEK: MEET & GREET x2...
We've tentatively scheduled a Meet and Greet in the Rancho Cucamonga/Ontario area for July 21, and one in the Palm Springs area on July 23. (More details to come!) Meet and Greets are a great way to learn more about the competition, join - or form - a team, and to network with your fellow filmmakers, actors, and film fans. Although attendance is not required, we'd still love to meet ya! (We've also been giving away cool stuff from our awesome sponsors, including Media Distributors and UltraStar Cinemas; attend if you want some rad swag!)

We're working on additional prizes (cash, anyone?), which we hope to announce in the next week or two. You aren't eligible to win 'em unless you're registered and you complete your film in time, so please sign up if you haven't already:
http://48hourfilm.com/inlandempire

THIS WEEKEND...
July 16-18 is the 48HFP-San Diego competition. Some of our Inland Empire teams are competing in both editions, so best of luck to those teams!

CALLING ALL POTENTIAL CAST...
Thanks so much to everyone who attended our Actor Auditions - the talent, the teams, The Press-Enterprise/InlandSoCal.com! A big thank you, too, to JDS Actors Studio for hosting us. For any actors who didn't attend but who would like to send us their reels or links to post for the Team Leaders, please e-mail them to Jeanette: jdperiod@gmail.com

TELL US WHO...WHO ARE YOU...
Registered teams, please send us a bio and any links, photos, and videos to post on our blog site, http://ie48hfp.posterous.com Note that we're not the only ones who want to know about you and your coolness; a selection of this year's Inland Empire films will screen at the Temecula Valley International Film & Music Festival (Sept. 15-19), and TVIFF wants to feature (hopefully) *Your** name not just on the silver screen, but in print - the souvenir program, the Web site, etc.!

"TELL ME/US WHAT'S ON YOUR MIND"...
Check us out on Facebook: 48 Hour Film Project - Inland Empire, CA!; we encourage interaction. Also, please "friend" IE City Co-Producer Jeanette Di Pinza, aka, Jeanette da Duck, so she can tell your Facebook pals how much you/your team rock(s), cuz encouragement and support are so awesome!

We have a Youtube channel - and a Vlogger. JORDAN/JAE MITCHELL, who has competed in 48HFP-IE since the IE joined the World Tour in 2008, has to sit on the sidelines this year, but she's been of great help behind the scenes, behind the teams! If you want your team featured in our Vlog, please e-mail Jeanette.

Have a fantastic weekend!

Noses to the grindstone, yo,
Jeanette and Alan

Greetings, Film Friends:

Thank you to everyone who attended our Filmmakers Boot Camp on Saturday. We had a great time putting on the show and we hope y’all learned a thing or two…and had a great time, too. Thanks, especially, to the folks who drove in from Palm Springs – such road warriors! (BTW, we’ll be holding a Meet and Greet in the Coachella Valley in the next couple of weeks. Please keep an eye onhttp://48hourfilm.com/inlandempire)

Competition weekend is Aug. 6-8, so please sign up your team if you haven’t already. Don’t be stuck on the sidelines, saying “I coulda been a contenda”; ensure your team will compete in a wild weekend you’ll remember forever and a day by registering athttps://www.48hourfilm.com/registration/?cityid=104

*EARLY BIRD TEAM REGISTRATION.**

It ends tonight, July 12!

Even if your team isn’t complete, please sign-up by tonight for: 1.) the $20 discount, $135. (Afterwards, it’s $155 per team.)  2.) a FREE limited edition “Best of Inland Empire 2010” DVD.  3.) secret sweet swag!

If funding for your film is a concern (*when is it not?**) try to:

1.)   Share the fee among your team members, and designate a Team Leader, e.g., $135/10 = A good deal for your whole team!

2.)   Find a business or even an individual to sponsor your team. Register for Inland Empire now: https://www.48hourfilm.com/registration/?cityid=104

Greetings, Film Friends:

We hope everyone’s having an awesome week! The Inland Empire edition of the world’s largest timed-filmmaking competition has a lot to offer you the next few days. The wild weekend is Aug. 6-8, and the Early Bird discount rate ends July 12, so register your team at http://48hourfilm.com/inlandempire

*FILMMAKERS BOOT CAMP.**
It’s tomorrow – Saturday, July 10 – at a full-service Inland Empire production studio, Group 1 Productions in Temecula (27576 Commerce Center Dr. #110 Temecula, CA 92590 behind the Sizzler’s on Jefferson Street).

It’s $10 for the morning session OR afternoon session. Whole day = save $5, learn double…only $15! (Cash only, when you arrive, please.)

In the spotlight: a pair of deservedly-pricey-cuz-they’re-oh-so-glorious Kino Flos, plus the “Home Depot $30 light kit”; Final Draft screenwriting software, plus the free alternative, Celtx; Mac and PC-based editing bays; no RED camera (yet) but a Canon 5D, other cameras and a ton of other gear. We’ll show ya! Even if you’re not on a registered team, or even if you don’t plan to compete, if you have an interest in filmmaking, please attend.

RSVP and see lineup @ http://bit.ly/bzHysi
…or e-mail us, inlandempire@48hourfilm.com, or call Jeanette @ 818.585.4027.

Water and snacks will be provided, and yes, we’ll have more FREE door prizes!

*ACTOR AUDITIONS.**
Tuesday, July 13, at JDS Actors Studio in Temecula. RSVP and more info @ http://jdsactorsstudio.com/  (if you’re a Team Leader, Director or Producer, please indicate that in the “comments” section.)

Please see the “Events” tab on our Blog site, http://ie48hfp.posterous.com, for more details on these two and other 48-related shindigs.

*TEAM REGISTRATION.**
The deadline for the Early Bird discounted rate, $135 per team, is JULY 12. Afterwards, it’s $155. Sign up at http://48hourfilm.com/inlandempire

This year, teams will be accepted on a first come, first served basis. Once the initial registration is complete, we will accept teams for the Waiting List. The sooner you register, the sooner you’ll secure a spot in the competition, and hopefully watch *Your**film’s world premiere at UltraStar Cinemas! We’ve got the 412-seat Theater #9, and we’ll project in the awesomeness that is HD! (More on this in a later newsletter.)

Oh yeah, and teams that register by July 12 will get a *FREE** limited edition
“Best of Inland Empire 2010** DVD, as well as more swag! Oh yeah!!

You could’a, should’a…don’tcha wanna be a contender? :oj
