48 Hour Film Project sister competition, the |National| Film Challenge, Oct. 22-25, 2010.

Greetings, 48HFP-IE Friends:

I know some of you - especially in the Palm Springs area - already plan to compete in this, but for those of you who missed out on competing in The 48 Hour Film Project, or if you’re thirsty for more, a sister competition, the National Film Challenge <http://filmchallenge.org/>, will occur Oct. 22-25, 2010. Instead of physically dropping off your film, you mail it in by Oct. 25 (see the NFC Web site for complete rules). And you compete against the rest of the nation – make that the world – simultaneously. The winners will be featured at 48HFP’s World Finals, Filmapalooza.

I’ve created a discussion board topic on our Facebook Fan page <http://bit.ly/a3ZEn8>, as well as a tab on our Posterous blog page <http://bit.ly/dC3AuW> for anyone interested.

48HFP city producers are eligible to compete in the National Film Challenge, so I plan to participate. My initial goal was to get a member from each of the 48HFP-IE teams to be on my team. But I’ll be on another continent during the competition dates – and you betcha I’m gonna make a film wherever I am – one-wild-weekend style!

Best of luck if you compete in the National Film Challenge. Here’s hoping that at the 2011 Filmapalooza at Miami International Film Festival, I’ll get to root for Team Work and Play Productions/“Snakebit” AND another team representing the mighty IE!

Keep on filming,
Jeanette.

The National Film Challenge is an exhilarating worldwide filmmaking competition from the creators of the 48 Hour Film Project and KDHX Community Media. The Premise: Participating teams have just one weekend to write, shoot and edit a short film or video. Regardless of where you live, this is your opportunity to experience the 48 Hour Film Project phenomenon!

Just like in the 48HFP, you'll receive a character, prop, line of dialogue, and a genre through this website at 7pm local time, October 22nd. Then you'll have to mail the film in on October 25th.  In the following weeks the top films (determined by a national panel of judges) will be available for viewing (and voting!) on the Film Challenge website. The winning films will screen with the 48HFP City Winners at the next Filmapalooza, the 48HFP's end of year event at the Miami International Film Festival. In addition there are cash prizes for the winning films! Registration is now open for the 2010 competition, this year's date are October 22-25. Register on the Film Challenge site, <http://filmchallenge.org/>.

From the 48 Hour Film Project - Inland Empire newsletter No. 12 (08.03.10) : PRIZE ANNOUNCEMENTS edition!

Greetings, Film Friends:

The big weekend for the Inland Empire edition of the world's largest timed-filmmaking competition kicks off this Friday, Aug. 6.  For filmmakers and actors considering forming a team, registration ($155 per team) is still open and can be done via http://48hourfilm.com/inlandempire

For folks wanting to join an existing team, if you haven't already, please add your contact info to the "Join a Team" database, whose link can be found at the bottom of http://48hourfilm.com/inlandempire  Registered Team Leaders have access to this database in case they're in need of more cast and crew.

And now...

PRIZE ANNOUNCEMENTS:

* There will be an Audience Award for each screening group, and the prize for our Audience Award winners is...*insert: drum roll**: FREE admission to the rest of 2010's Independent Filmmakers of the Inland Empire Meetups for all members on official rosters of the winning teams, courtesy of IFOTIE founder/organizer Eric Harnden! (Raffle ticket included only for paid admissions, but can be purchased for $1.) http://ifotie.com

* Inland Empire's BEST FILM, as determined by a jury, will receive...*insert: guitar solo**
$500 CASH, sponsored by Ted W. Kennedy of Kennedy Films & Entertainment - Long Beach, CA!
http://kennedyfilms.tv  Again, that's $500 CASH for our winning film/team!!

* A selection of 48HFP-IE films will have automatic screenings at Temecula Valley International Film & Music Festival (http://tviff.com/) and Lake Arrowhead Film Festival (http://www.lakearrowheadfilmfestival.com/)! Film festival "Official Selections" = IMDB credit!!

* A selection of award winners will receive 1-year subscriptions to MovieMaker magazine! http://www.moviemaker.com/

* Because first and foremost, I consider myself a (screen)writer, for the BEST WRITING/Screenplay winner...I will award my personal copy of the Oscar-winning screenplay for "Juno" - and it's a special edition. I was fortunate enough to attend the last 48HFP World Finals, Filmapalooza, which was held at NAB Show in Las Vegas this April. "Juno" director Jason Reitman gave an incredible talk - including On Screenwriting - and he autographed my copy of the Diablo Cody-written "Juno" (his signature + a cool note). (I did get him to autograph - and personalize with my name - my copy of the screenplay for "Thank You for Smoking," which he wrote and directed, and which I'll be keeping for a while...maybe. ;o) I might just write a memo in the "Juno" script for this award's winner, too, wishing you all the best; who knows maybe someday I'll be collecting *Your** autograph when you make it big.

More prize announcements to come! Have a super week, everyone!

---

BTW, at the previous Filmapalooza, I sat with some City Producers (even though I had not gotten the official "tap" to be a CP for IE yet). I did cheer on "Rationed" by our defending champions, the Vegan Cannibals, when it was named 2nd Runner-up in the world out of about 76 cities. This upcoming Filmapalooza, I will sit next to whichever IE team represents us for this, our third year on the 48HFP World Tour. And you're dang straight I'll cheer my heart out for you when they announce "INLAND EMPIRE"!!

Your No. 1 Cheerleader,
Jeanette Di Pinza, aka, "da Duck."

P.S. Extra-super-special thanks to Eric Harnden (my 2009 48HFP-IE Team Leader), Brian Bowers (Cleveland CP; HQ Staff), Jimmy Stewart (LA CP), Christina Ruppert (HQ), Laura Schlect (Houston CP; HQ Staff), and...Wally Schlotter (Vice President - Special Projects, UltraStar Cinemas), for your advice, generosity (especially your time), encouragement, support, and most of all, for simply being there for me.

48 Hour Film Project - Inland Empire, CA!'s Space

The 48 Hour Film Project is the world's largest timed-filmmaking competition - happening in more than 90 cities. Each team gets 1 genre, 3 elements (prop, character, line of dialogue) + one wild weekend to make a 4- to 7-minute film: write, shoot, edit, score, deliver.

The Inland Empire's competition dates were Aug. 6-8, and the 3 elements were: a toothbrush; Ned or Nora Hammond, photographer; "No, that's not right."
